Charleston Cougars could still be eligible for an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament, even if they lose the CAA Tournament. They have little room for error after their loss at Hofstra 85-81 on Saturday. The former 18th Cougars hadn’t lost a single game since their Nov. 11 loss to North Carolina. The Cougars’ defense was a problem, as Hofstra could only shoot 50% from the field and half (11-of-22), from long range. For a mid-major, 9-0 is a remarkable start and to be ranked in the top 20 in the CAA is amazing. Their incredible win streak of 20 games had earned them national attention. They now need to win the remaining games, or at the very least the CAA Tournament in Washington D.C. during March.
Drexel Dragons is currently 9-2 at home, and only 2-6 on the roads this season. They beat Northeastern, Hampton and Delaware on the road. However, they lost to North Carolina A&T (68-55) last Thursday. Elon was defeated (72-58) in a failed North Carolina swing. Elon was 0-8 in their CAA game and 2-19 for the season when they faced Drexel. This was their first win against a Division I team in this season’s season.
