One encouraging takeaway from Sunday’s loss for the Mets may have been their ability to score six runs and take two leads within four innings of play. As has often been the case recently, however, the pitchers failed to perform in unison, giving up 13 runs during a loss.
The New York Mets had fallen to 17-18 since being 14-7 on April 27. They lost 11 games during this stretch. Last season’s 101-win squad is now just a distant memory when considering this current group. The offense has been subpar, starting the week 21st in runs per game. Due to a top-5 walk rate and HBP total, they currently rank 13th in OBP. However, they only have 36 homers so far this season – 11 coming off of Pete Alonso’s bat – leading them to rank at the bottom-10 slugging percentage.
